18/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 18-Jul-2018 06:40 to 10:30hrs
Headlines: It seems birds were on the move today so a good capture, mostly juveniles but also a few adults in the late stages of moult. Three crests arrived late in the session, the first proved very interesting as it was a recently fledge bird; see photos below; later two recently fledged Goldcrest captured alleviated a slight doubt as to it being its ID as a Firecrest. None of the crests had any sign of a crest. Yesterday Whitethroats matched the capture of other migrants except Blackcap, not today though. Last year’s matching visit had many fewer migrants. A busy morning until the capture tailed off at about 09:30hrs.
Weather: overcast, some sunny periods, close, warm, calm
Present: JL, RJC
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 06:45 to 10:15hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Willow Warbler, Garden Warbler, Redstart, Whitethroat intermittently

The two crests on the right are recently fledged, the eye strip was less obvious  "in the flesh"
