Summary: A drop in total number of birds shows 2016 to be a quiet year particularly post the breeding season; usually the best captures are made at this time. Most of the group ringed somewhere every day when conditions permitted but captures were mostly down on previous years.
Notable Species Change Includes:
- Lapwing: the 1st pulli ringed at Greenham Common since 2012
- Barn Owl: good numbers of pulli ringed after last years breeding failure
- Woodlark: difficult to capture species one nest found after days of searching
- Meadow Pipit: a very poor showing this year
- Redstart: a below average capture
- Mistle Thrush: a difficult to capture species, our 1st since 2009
- Cetti's Warbler: another relatively good year
- Sedge Warbler: numbers continue to decline, once numbers captured match Reed Warbler
- Reed Warbler: not a good year
- Blackcap: total considerably down
- Yellow-browed Warbler: two different birds in one year!
- Firecrest: a spring record only in 2016; no autumn captures at the migration site.
- Spotted Flycatcher: one; few if any captured annually in recent years
- Blue Tit: a considerable drop in the annual capture both full grown and pulli.
- Great Tit: as Blue Tit
- Coal Tit: an average total but 23% down on 2015
- Chaffinch: another poor showing
- Greenfinch: the worst capture this century
- Goldfinch: a goodish year mostly for the 1st winter period; 2nd period very poor
- Siskin: a really good year mostly in the 1st winter period; 2nd period few came to feeders
- Lesser Redpoll: an extremely good year; few came to feeders in 2nd winter period.
- Reed Bunting: lowest total since 1995
