11/04 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 11-Apr-2017 07:00 to 10:15hrs
Headlines: A better morning than last week with a Linnet and a nice male Dartford Warbler the latter in breeding condition. As is usual this time of year, nothing early then a flurry of activity with a capture of four followed by the Dartford about 30 minutes later. After about an hour of little activity in the enclosure we decided to stop; there are only so many times you can walk the same bushes!
Weather: Sunshine, some cloud, calm early, breezy later, cool
Present: JL, IW, JHW
Nets: 48 metres in three rides of 18M, 18M and 12M up from 07:30 to 10:00hrs
Lure (none):

 Dartford Warbler Male
Sightings 34 Species: It was noticeable that after my walk round yesterday when there were Blackcaps and Willow Warblers everywhere, that most had moved on. Woodlark, Stonechat and Dartford Warbler were quite vocal for most of the morning. Linnets were everywhere, some taking grit from the gravel paths. A surprise was a fly-over Yellowhammer. Like yesterday no new migrant species until we were taking the nets down when first two Swallows flew through and just after two House martin appeared over the large puddle to the south west of the enclosure, landed and presumably began collecting mud; they don’t waste time do they!
