Marsh LNR CES Visit 2017.02
Session: 13-May-2017 05:30 to
10:30hrs
Headlines: We didn’t get off to
a good start this morning. First Simon fell in to the steam while putting the
plank in place that forms the bridge to access the reed bed ride. Next the reed
bed nets took longer to get up. I had a couple of strange tangles that took a few
minutes sorting out and one of Ian’s nets had a twist in it and we had to take
down and re-erect a pole to remove it. After this things went relatively
smoothly. We had quite a good variety of species; Reed Warbler made up 45% of
the capture. 38 for visit 02, from the standard nets, is above the average of
31, range 38 in 2016 to 43 in 2006. The Sedge Warbler capture of 10 is a little
above the average of 9 while the Reed Warbler capture of 21 is the third best
ever in the 25 years of the CES; the average for visit 02 is 12. Another
control Reed Warbler is good. We had a control Reed Warbler on the first visit
this year that had been ringed in 2016 at Holme BO, North Norfolk. The 6 years
327 days from ringing Blackbird is actually 8+ years old as it was ringed as a
5 (bird hatched the previous year) in June 2010. A total of 46 is a much better session than
last year when we had a total of 24; just 15 in the standard nets, we had 38 this time.
Weather: Overcast, warm
occasionally a few spots of rain, clam breezy later
Present: JL, DL, IW,GB,SC
Nets: 234metres in three rides: standard
nets one reed bed ride of 108+90M, additional nets: two scrub rides of 18M,18M
up from 06:10 to 10:10hrs
