13/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 13-Jul-2017 06:30 to 10:25hrs
Headlines: Raining a little when I left home but the rain radar showed it to be the end of a passing shower. It was quite slow at first with just a Linnet and 30 minutes later a Blackcap, Linnet and Blue Tit. Then I saw several Whitethroat dropped into the site. I watched some moving towards the enclosure, they took a little time to capture. Blackcap, Whitethroat and Linnet made up the bulk of the day’s capture. Phylos warblers were scarce this morning; one Chiffchaff captured, three singing in the woods and no sign of Willow Warbler. The latter seem to have left the area a couple of weeks ago. It should be easy to separate passage birds from the locals this year.
Weather: Overcast, few spots of rain on arrival, clearing to sunny periods, cool, calm until the last hour when there was a light breeze.
Present: JL, RJC
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 06:45 to 10:00hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler intermittently.
