Session: 12-Oct-2017 07:45 to
10:50hrs
Headlines: Looks like the summer
migration is over, no Phylos or Sylvia warbler migrants today, also disappointingly
no crests reacted. Unlike last year’s matching visit when these made up the
bulk of the capture. Several Redwing and Redpoll dropped in but the nets were billowing
in the breeze so if they went in they must have bounced out. The first capture
a Dartford Warbler was an hour after nets up. Then another 45 minutes passed
before the Great tit was captured. Finally when we went to take the nets down
we had captured the Redwing and Blackbird. Not many birds but a couple of
quality species.
Weather: Light breeze, mostly
cloudy, cool
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 48metres in three
rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff,
Goldcrest, Firecrest, Siskin, Redpoll, Redwing, Meadow Pipit intermittently

1st Redwing capture of the autumn ,a 2nd winter bird and long winged (124mm)
Sightings 26 Species: First
Redwings of this winter for me, quite late compared to 2016. No sign of any summer migrants (two Chiffchaff were singing along the Greenham Park hedge on Tuesday the 10th) Song Thrushes were flying about a lot and were probably also winter migrants. Very much a winter feel to the bird species seen today, though the singing, sparring Woodlark seem to think it is early spring.
