Session: 07-Jan-2018 07:50 to 11:20hrs

Headlines: Snow flurries on the way to Snelsmore that stopped soon after arrival. Session numbers match last winter and numbers of Blue Tit and Coal Tit similar with Great Tit numbers up. We don’t recapture many of the pulli Nuthatch ringed in nest boxes so the bird today is good even though it hatched in a box about 30metres from the feeder. Looking at the list of previous visit 5 totals 2009/10 must have been very busy.

This is the first session entering data using DemOn, the BTO’s new web-based data entry system that supersedes IPMR. It is al little slower to enter data mostly due to internet speed and traffic, also information is validated as it is entered. Unfortunately my report routines don’t work for the new system so a bit more of a manual effort to produce the same data; as you can see still got a bit of work to do on the background of one table. It didn’t help that every time I relaxed entering the data that I hit return in the wrong place and bounced myself out of the system three times. Still a lot more development needed but then IPMR was the same when it first came out and for that matter its predecessor BRING

Weather: cold, sunny periods, blustery wind from the north east but sheltered by trees so almost calm.

Sightings 28 Species: Ian's list, not a good day for observing as the coldness when standing around is not much help with the concentration, I added a few new species to my year list though.
