25/11 Snelsmore Feeder

Location: Snelsmore Common Feeder
Session: 25-Nov-2018 0745 to 11:20hrs
Notes: Busy busy, we ringed or extracted without a pause over the three-hour session. It is interesting to look at the capture profile: early it was mostly Coal Tits, mid-session mixed with a good proportion of Great Tits, late in the session Blue Tits made up about 90% of the 31 captures of the last round. The equivalent matching visit two (26-Nov-2017) compared with this visit, reinforces the observation that 2017 had a poor breeding season survival, shown in this case by low numbers of Blue Tit and Great Tit; 2018 survival looks promising so far.
Weather: Mostly overcast, calm slight breeze late in session, cool
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 12metres, 6m net each side of feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): black sunflower, niger, fat balls, peanuts

Sightings 23 Species: Ian’s List: we had little time for any meaningful observations and the tree line here is not very good for sightings anyway. A Brambling called briefly in the tree by the Mary Hare entrance. A strong movement of winter thrushes going west south west is interesting, could they be those we saw Friday at Greenham returning?
