07/04 Thatcham Marsh LNR Butterfly Reserve

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR, Butterfly Reserve.
Session: 07-Apr-2019 07:00 to 10:20hrs
Notes: First ringing session after a holiday break at the Butterfly Reserve at Thatcham Marsh LNR. We ringed the first summer Blackcap and Chiffchaffs. One of the Chiffchaffs had been ringed last year on the CES site B. The Treecreepers were also nice captures, this seems to be a good site for them.  Some of the resident birds were in breeding conditions. 
Weather: cool, light wind, mostly overcast.

CHIFF            ringed 15/04/2018 on the Constant Effort Site
TREEC          ringed 24/02/2017 on the Butterfly Reserve.

Sightings 43 Species: List is a bit hit and miss from memory as we did not make notes on the go. Heard a Sedge Warbler sing briefly in the small reed bed nearby and small groups of Swallow and Sand Martin were about most of the the session, also a Willow Warbler sang for a while There was a good gathering of Pochard on one of the small pools: 8 males and 5 females visible, also two or three Tufted Duck were on the same pool where both species have bred recently.
