31/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Session: 31-Jul-2020, 07:00 to 10:45 hrs

Notes: It got hot towards the end of the session and the birds disappeared from the heath presumably finding somewhere cooler. The only Chiffchaff captured today was a re-trap moulting adult in non-breeding condition, ringed here as a juvenile last year on the 28/08/2019

Weather: bright sunny, very warm, light breeze

Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 07:30 to 10:30hrs

Lure (Audio): Warblers, Misc Migrants, Redstart, intermittently.


Recaptures:(1)        Chiffchaff ringed 28/08/2019

Sightings 33 Species: Best bird today was a Hobby flying south hunting high flying dragonflies. The gulls were also high up feeding on these. Six Cormorants SW was notable as they are less frequent here recently. Some of the Stonechats, all in one group and mostly juveniles, had rings on.
