12/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 12-Aug-2020, 07:30 to 11:00hrs
Notes: Willow Warblers going through today some carrying quite a lot of fat, also a few Whitethroats, and the first Lesser Whitethroats of 2020, the last a bit later than usual here. But, the best bird of the day, the second ever Grasshopper Warbler for this site. The first for us since 2017. It had us reading Demogin which we found confusing, so we reverted to Svensson and decided that it was an adult female. I started later than intended, like most people finding sleep difficult in the heat, we would have stay until 11:00 but it was too hot for the birds and us.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Bright clear, hot, calm to light SE breeze.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (Audio): Warblers, Misc Migrants, Redstart, intermittently.
Lesser Whitethroat immature
Grasshopper Warbler adult female

Recaptures:(none)

Sightings 28 Species The Grasshopper Warbler is a new species for me this year taking my 2020 list to 116 species from just four places.
