22/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 39
Session: 22-Sep-2020, 07:35 to 11:10hrs
Notes: What a difference, the weather was bright sunny and calm, and we captured more birds in the first round than we did for the whole session yesterday. We had a goodish capture of Blackcap and Chiffchaff and a late Whitethroat.
Present:  JL,IW
Weather: Clear sunny, warm, calm, light breeze for the last 30 minutes or so.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (Audio):
Warblers, Misc Migrants, Redstart, Dartford Warbler, Hirundine, Autumn, WagPips, Wryneck, Yellow-browed Warbler intermittently.
Recaptures: (none)
Sightings 31 Species:
Quite a large flock of House martins were found over the trees to the south west, probably a lot more than the 65 assessed to be there. A small group of Swallows flew south, and three Lesser Redpolls and the Siskins came in over the trees from the north. A Woodlark was singing over territory for the first hours or so. Steve PK noted one singing on the 17th and since up to three are singing on various parts of Greenham & Crookham Common; seems a strange time of year as many disappear from most of the common late Autumn through to February
