09/05 Thatcham Marsh LNR CES visit 2021.02

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR Constant Effort Site visit 02 of 12
Session: 09/05/2021, 06:00 to 11:10hrs
Notes: The second CES session of the season. Given the very windy conditions (we had to cross guy intermediate poles to keep them upright) 30 is not a bad total. A good illustration of how wind affected the session was, is that the matching 2019.02 visit weather was bright, sunny, clear, cool, calm and the total and variety of species indicates the better ringing conditions. So far this year the perception is that Sedge Warbler numbers seem to be up, they could be passage birds though, the next couple of sessions will probably confirm.
Present: JHW,JL,IW
Weather: Very windy early and from the south west for a change, dropping to a light breeze before the end of the session when it increased significantly, warm mostly overcast with occasional sunny periods.
Nets: 210metres in 2 rides of 198M, 12M up from 06:30 to 10:30hrs
Lures: None

Recaptures:(05)

Chiffchaff                  ringed 11/04/2021

Great Tit                    ringed 16/04/2018

Reed Warbler           ringed 25/04/2021

Sedge Warbler         ringed 01/05/2021x2

Sightings 51 species: There was a good passage of Swifts and a few hirundines drifting

northeast in pulses during the session. Otherwise much as expected.
