Location: Greenham Common
Western Enclosure (wk24)
Session:
14/06/2024
07:45 to 10:00hrs
Notes: The was a strong breeze
but we put the nets up hoping the forecast rain would hold off until after 10:30hrs. It was
not to be though as a few short light showers blew through. A slightly heavier
shower at about 09:35hrs made us decide to abandon the session as we had not
caught any birds for over an hour, also the nets were being blown about too much. For fear of getting the audio equipment wet we put it away about 09:00hrs. Nice
to ring a Blackbird and Song Thrush though, we don’t ring many these days.
Nearest matching visit is the same as for Tuesday’s visit as we made just the
one visit in 2023.
Present: JL,IW.
Weather: mostly
overcast, occasional sunny periods, blustery breeze, occasional light showers.
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides,
18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 09:45hrs.
Lures audio: (Warblers),
(Misc Migrants), (RT), (GH), intermittently.
Sightings: Unusually for the time of year no Blackcaps or Blue Tits singing/calling or detected today. Woodlark were singing, they seem to like the blustery weather. Four Meadow Pipit is notable for this end of the common. The Fox momentarily watched us from inside the enclosure. I expected it to jump the fence, but it squeezed through the pig fencing mesh; fortunately, most dogs aren’t inclined to do this and stay outside.
