10/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure wk28
Session: 10/07/2024 07:30 to 10:50hrs
NotesAs the daisies and others have seeded we strimmed the rides before we put the nets up. The weather just now is difficult for ringing; it was quite breezy today. Fortunately, apart from a few spots the rain clouds skirted round the Greenham plateau. A few Blackcap on the move/dispersing today, probably fledgling from nearby. A 2020 Blue Tit (4 years old) in full wing-moult, re-trapped for first time since that year. The other re-traps (adult) Blue Tit and Chiffchaff were also in full wing-moult. The juvenile Stonechat, a juvenile male. was probably a fledgling of the pair that bred west of the enclosure.
Present: JL,IW.
Weather: Overcast low cloud, breezy, cool
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, up from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs.
Lures audio: (Warbler), (Misc Migrants), (RT), (GH) intermittently.

Recaptures: (03)
Blue Tit           ringed: 05/08/2020, 01/09/2023
Chiffchaff        ringed: 20/06/2023

Sightings:  Unusually, no Garden Warbler or Whitethroat detected today, and the only Willow Warbler was the one ringed. The majority of the Jackdaw count left in one large flock over west early. Dartford Warbler relatively quiet, just one brief sighting. The few Carrion Crow seen at this end of the common is intriguing, just the occasional sighting since we started this season here; there are plenty at the Crookham end. Swift quite high up, drifting south , just two or three more weeks and they will have left and be well on their way to Africa. The Raven flew over northeast at nets down.
