Weather: Over cast and blustery at times with calm periods cool.

Nets: 250’ in 5 rides up from 07:45 to 11:10hrs

Lure: Bait: Niger, Fat-balls, Black Sunflower and Peanut Feeders.
Audio: Redwing, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Blackcap, Chiffchaff all intermittently

Capture: 49 Blackbird 1, Blackcap 1, Blue Tit 5&4, Bullfinch 1,Chaffinch 1, Dunnock 1, Goldcrest2&4, Goldfinch 4, Great Spotted Woodpecker 0&1, Great Tit 4&3, Greenfinch 11&2,
Redwing 1, Treecreeper 1,Wren 2

Recaptures: All recent except Blue Tit 1 year 13 days, Greenfinch 356 days (ringed at Haysoms), 123 days (ringed at Western Enclosure)

Age Range: All 1st winter except Blue Tit 2, Goldfinch 1, Greenfinch 2, Great Tit 1

Redwing adult, one bird captured
of a 20 strong flock that responded to song.

Notes: It was a slow start at the feeder today with few birds attempting to feed. Duncan’s new Chinese player worked very well but the Redwings stayed in the tops of the trees. A move to a net out in the scrub produced one capture. A surprise capture was the blackcap; probably a northern European birds arriving here for the winter. A switch to crest song produced 6 Goldcrest. A glimpse fly over was thought to be a Firecrest but if it was it didn’t go in the nets. Small numbers of Greenfinch and Goldfinch had been around all morning but appeared wary of the nets. As the morning progressed they began to arrive in numbers and we had a good capture in the end. Thought we had made 50 but one of the last captures was of a bird ringed earlier in the morning so we had to settle for 49.
