Session: 06-Jun-2015 05:30 to 11:00 hrs

Weather: bright sunny light breeze at start , more cloud and very strong winds towards the end of the session affecting the capture for the second half.

Present: JL, IW, DL, JHW, JPM, RGS

Nets: Standard nets 660’ along one reed bed ride. Additional Nets 230’ in scrub, Nets up from 06:00 to 10:00hrs

Lure: none

Capture 35: Blackcap 1/0, Blue Tit 1/0, Cetti’s Warbler 0/2, Dunnock 0/1, Reed Bunting 1/0, Reed Warbler 12/12, Robin 2/1,Sedge Warbler 0/2

Recaptures: Cetti’s Warbler 328days, Dunnock 3y 66days, Reed Warbler 2y 313days, 2y 4days, 357days, 334days, 328days, 315days, 307days

Age Range (juveniles) : Blackcap 1, Blue Tit 1, Reed Bunting 1, Reed Warbler 4; normally we don’t capture juvenile Reed Warbler until visit 6 or 7, visit 5 is early, we have only ever in the 23 years of the CES captured 1 on visit 4 (2011)

The session started off quite well, the light breeze not really affecting the capture however as the session progressed the wind increased; the last 40 minutes being quite impossible as the wind became very strong. There was relatively little avian activity during the session particularly in the scrub probably subdued by the conditions. On the reed bed the impression is of just a couple of pairs of Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting present in the immediate vicinity and fewer returning Reed Warblers so far this year and time is running out. It was somewhat of a surprise when a recently fledging Reed Warbler family turned up in the nets.

Sightings 45 Species: No sign of Nightingale, probably either on eggs or has moved on.
