29/12 Bagnor Feeder

Location: Bagnor Feeder
Session: 29-Dec-2015 07:45 to 11:30
Weather: Drizzle for the first half hour then clearing to sunny; quite warm for the time of year especially down in the valley.
Present: JL, IW, RGS
Nets: 36’ an 18’ net each side of feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00
Lure (feeder): Peanut, Black Sunflower, Niger
Capture (New/Recapture) 19 (11/8):
Blue Tit 8/4
Dunnock 0/1
Great Tit 1/2
Greenfinch 1/0
Nuthatch 1/1

Recaptures: All recent except:
Blue Tit 218d from Box F2 Boxford Common, 222d Box AMT1(Marsh Tit/Dormouse type) Mount Hill
Great Tit 218d from Box D10 Mount Hill
Age Range: All 1st winter except: Adults Blue Tit 4
Notes: Very quiet at the feeder and in the surrounding hedgerows. The finch flocks seem to have moved on and fewer tits are coming to the feeder. Two of the pulli recaptured came relatively quite a distance for tits; one from a box on Boxford Common and the other from the furthest box at Mount Hill; probably 4 or 5 kilometres along the hedgerows.
Sightings 34 Species: Song Thrush singing at dawn, Nuthatches ringing calls proclaiming territories, very spring-like in the sunshine. An early flight of corvids mostly Rooks east and a few gulls over west the only visible movement. Just a few Redwing flying about the only avian evidence of winter. Walkers on the Mount Hill footpath disturbed a flock of Woodpigeon otherwise their numbers would have been quite low for the time of year. There seems to be fewer Little Egret generally; only one patrolling the valley today.
