22/02 --: Greenham Common Feeder (21/02) & Haysoms Feeder (22/02)

Location: Greenham Common Feeder (21/02) & Haysoms Feeder (22/02)
Session: 21-Feb- 2016 08:00 to 10:00hrs & 22-Feb-2016 09:00 to 13:00hrs
Headlines: Two sessions. We tried to ring Sunday 21st at the Greenham feeder, it was extremely windy. When we started the NNW wind direction gave some shelter to the scrub nets. Unfortunately during the session it moved round to the a westerly direction and after just three birds we gave up. Today 22/02 as I was at home I put a net up while working at the computer, most birds avoided the net but a few were captured and a relatively good variety at that. The goldcrest was a surprise the only time I have captured one here in the past it was called in with audio;they have been unusually scarce in the adjacent conifers this winter. Had to release a chaffinch with grotty foot; no been so many of these in the garden this year. A new robin today; there was a ringed pair until mid-last week. On Friday I saw some interaction between three un-ringed birds so perhaps the pair have been pushed out or moved on. The male bullfinch ringed the other day was one of the net avoiders.
