25/02 Greenham Common Feeder Ringing Demo

Session: 25-Feb-2016 07:45 to 10:30hrs
Headlines: A short session to demonstrate ringing to BBOWT personnel. They all returned after helping move a pool liner so must have done ok. A steady flow of birds gave the opportunity to show ageing techniques as well as the basics of ringing on a reasonable variety passerines. Thanks to Ian, Pat and John for keeping things flowing while I was talking. Explaining what we do makes me realise how much skill and knowledge we have acquired without realising it and perhaps we should value it more than we do.
Weather: bright, sunny cool, calm
Present: JL, IW, JPM, RJC + BBOWT personnel
Nets: 24metres in two rides from 08:00 to 10:00hrs.
Lure (feeders): nygerx4, black sunflowerx2, peanut, mixed seed ground feed.
Capture (New/Recapture) 22 (10/12): Blue Tit 1/0, Chaffinch 1/0, Coal Tit 0/1, Dunnock 0/2, Goldfinch 3/0, Great Tit 1/0, Lesser Redpoll 0/5, Marsh Tit 0/1, Siskin 4/3
Recaptures: 12 all ringed less than 100days except Coal Tit 2y 107d
Age Range: all 1st winter except Adult: Great Tit 1, Lesser Redpoll 1, Siskin 1
