30/08 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 30-Aug 2016 06:30 to 11:00hrs
Headlines: Not a bad morning with Chiffchaffs on the move bulking out the numbers.  Blackcap numbers still relatively low and we are now capturing probably the last Willow Warbler and Whitethroat of this season; only stragglers from now on. Probably the best bird captured, a Reed Bunting was released un-ringed or I had two rings of the same number; only way I will know is if I capture it again, if it is ringed that is? Chiffchaff were captured a few each round while the Blackcaps were all captured about half way through on the same round as was the Whitethroat. Tits still scarce had it been a previous year numbers would have been considerably more than below.
Weather: Bright, sunny, warm, calm
Present: JL, IW, GB, SC
Nets: 84metres in five rides of 18m, 18m, 12m, 18m, 18m(3shelf) up from07:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Firecrest, Goldcrest, Willow Warbler, Redstart, Dartford Warbler intermittently.
Capture (New/Recapture) 25 (25/0): Blackcap 4/0, Blue Tit 2/0, Chiffchaff 13/0, Great Tit 1/0, Greenfinch 1/0, Robin 1/0, Whitethroat 1/0, Willow Warbler 2/0
Recaptures: none
Age Range: all 1st CY except adult Blue Tit.

Today's Whitethroat a 1st summer
Sightings 32 Species: Fairly quiet with little visible movement of migrants. It is surprising that so many are capture when the site appears to be all but devoid of them.
