Session: 07-Oct-2016 07:30 to
11:00hrs
Headlines: Misty rain on my windscreen
as I set out but decided to proceed anyway. The fine drizzle stopped as the
temperature changed. There is still a steady flow of Chiffchaffs through the
site and one blackcap. It will be interesting to see how many will be there
next week. A flock (25+) of Goldfinch perched in the scrub before going to
drink at a large puddle just to the southwest of the enclosure and we were
lucky enough to capture three; a net positioned nearer to the scrub along the
margins would probably have captured more. The crest capture so far has been
disappointing hopefully those wintering from further north have yet to arrive.
Weather: Misty drizzle
occasionally but mostly dry, overcast, cool, slight breeze
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 48metres in three
rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs

Capture (New/Recapture) 16(15/1) : Blackcap

18/08 50days ago
Age Range: all 1st CY except
adults Goldfinch 1
Sightings 30 Species: Not as many
Redwings today and no response to the audio. A high flying Mistle Thrush was unusual
and still a few Swallows flying around the trees before moving on. The highlight
was the flock of Wigeon they flew towards us from the west. At first we thought
viewed head on they were Golden Plover but once they were overhead realised
they were ducks
