Session: 13-Jan-2019 0740 to
11:15hrs
Notes: Misjudged the weather
by holding off ringing until the weekend, but the wind was just tolerable enough
to try and get the first half of January session in. The nets were blowing all
over the place as the wind swirled around the feeder so a capture of 33 is
quite good. Last year’s matching visit had much more variety and had
conditions been better, this year’s total might have been similar; many birds particularly
finches could see the swirling nets or bounced out. Take-up of the food at
this and the Bagnor feeder has been slow since before Xmas Interesting we captured
a Jay on the matching visit; we capture very few these days. We were a bit
prompt taking the nets down as conditions were quite uncomfortable although it
was not as cold as it can be this time of year.
Weather: very windy, chilly,
some blue sky later
Present: JL, JHW, IW, RJC
Nets: 44metres, 12m in west
gorse scrub and 12m, 12m 10m around feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): niger, niger, black
sunflower, peanuts, black sunflower
