13/08 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR CES 2023.11
Session: 13/08/2023 06:00 to 11:30hrs
A family group of Cetti's Warbler processed today, an adult female and three juveniles
Notes: A reasonable morning by this year's standards. Comparison with last year's visit 11, while having a similar variety of species, indicates there to be fewer individuals about. Reed Warbler numbers are well down for this visit, all the adults have probably gone; the reed bed is very quiet. Our young “guest” ringers are making us appreciate how much knowledge we have that we take for granted!
Present: JHW,DL,RAD,IW,JL,KMB
Weather: mostly overcast, some sunny periods, calm to light breeze warm.
Nets: 198M reed bed ride up from 06:30 to 10:30hrs
Lures: None.
Recaptures:(06)
Blue Tit                 ringed: 24/06/2023
Cetti’s Warbler     ringed: 16/07/2023
Chiffchaff             ringed: 11/06/2023
Garden Warbler  ringed: 30/07/2023
Great Tit               ringed: 30/07/2023
Wren                    ringed: 16/04/2023

Sightings: Several groups of Swift about/going through and two or three Swallow over. A Little Egret flew west. A doe and fawn Muntjac appeared on the edge of the track, hesitated when they saw us before disappearing back into the scrub. Not much insect activity except lots of Tree Wasps (smaller than the wasps most are familiar with) feeding along the net ride on weeping tree sap with the occasional Hornet and a few Blue Bottle flies in attendance, they were also there last week.
