Weather: sunny periods, breezy, cold.
Nets: 48metres
3 Rides, up from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs
Lures audio: (BC-CC-FC-GC),(FF-RE-ST),(YB),(SK-LR), intermittently.
Notes: It was noticeably colder and windy today; the latter
interspersed with calmer periods. The wind probably affected the catch as some
of the lighter birds probably bounced out of the nets. The Firecrest total exceeds the best year total in 2023
when 8 were ringed. Since 2011 we have ringed between 1 and 11 each year except
for 2017 when no Firecrest ringed; in total we have ringed 42 Firecrests here since we started up the site in 2009; would be nice to get a retrap or two particularly of one ringed elsewhere. Three Fieldfares flew off from the enclosure
at nets down otherwise apart from the crests there was little reaction to the
audio from the other target species.
Sightings: Some movement over the common today mostly gulls heading west. We had a few brown jobs over today, some possibly Redpoll, Siskin and maybe Chaffinch but they didn’t call and we were unable to get any details of plumage before they got too far away.
