Session:
Headlines: The fog was really
thick when I arrived and it was cold and clammy. I put up the usual nets with
a two shelf thrush net in place of a 12M super fine and another 18M to cover the
scrub for smaller birds near the thrush net. As it turned out we captured some
of the Goldcrests in the former as well as a couple of the Redwings. As the fog lifted
Redwings began dropping out of the murk into the scrub. We missed quite a few
but had a better strike rate than yesterday. There are still Goldcrest moving
through the site and for the first time this week we one or two other probably resident species captured.
Weather: thick fog, light
breeze, chilly clearing to bright sunshine in the last half hour of the
session.

Age Range:
Two of today's Redwings, top is an adult with 112mm wing probably a female, lower is a 1st winter long winged (121mm) possibly a male but might be one of the long winged races such as those from Iceland. The light was poor and it doesn't really show in the photos but the top bird had greyer tones to it colours and less contrast and may be of northern European origin.
