27/12 Bagnor Feeder

Location: Bagnor Feeder
Session: 27-Dec-2016 07:45 to 11:20hrs
Headlines: First session after longish break, for me, from ringing. Not a bad total given the lack of birds at the feeders this year and a good variety. Some interesting recaptures of nest box ringed pulli. Chaffinches without grotty foot is good, the few captured so far this year have mostly been suffering from this disease.  It was a surprise to capture Siskin as I have yet to put the Niger feeders up at this site. The difference in proportion of 1st CY to adult Blue and Great Tits is very noticeable when compared to last year’s equivalent session; not really a good comparison since they visit are 13days a part, better than nothing though. Also, the few Great Tits we did capture were all female.
Weather: Cold, ground frost, calm, warmed a little after sunrise.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 12metres, two 6m nets one each side for feeders, up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeders ): Peanuts, Black Sunflower, Fat Balls
Capture (New/Recapture) 29(18/11):           Matching 2015/16 Winter visit (15-Dec)
