Headlines: As for most visits to
the Estover feeder it was relatively slow with a steady capture of up to five each round;
usually one or two though. This feeder has been very quiet since the turn of
the year. So far we have not seen any Redpoll or Siskin on the feeders and only a couple of Goldfinch but there is
still time. The Greenfinch and Chaffinch that do turn up are very wary and
as with my feeder at home wait for us to take the nets down. The one
interesting feature of today’s capture, five robin: four new and a 68 day
retrap. We usual capture one sometimes two a session if we capture any here. No
much to say about the difference between
today’s visit and the matching 2016
visit.
Weather: Not as cold as
yesterday, ground frost, bright, sunny, calm
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 36metres 3 12m nets
around feeders up from 08:15 to 11:00hrs

One of todays five Robins
SPECIES 26 Sighting: The Mute Swans were stood on the iced over ponds to the west of Estover's. The only flyovers: a flock of Lapwing and a group of Canada Geese, both over south. Very little activity otherwise, remarkably quiet. Hope we get some passage soon.
