10/01 Greenham Common Estovers Feeder

Location: Greenham Common Estovers Feeder
Session: 10-Dec-2017 07:45 to 11:15hrs
Headlines: Very quiet at this feeder, a contrast with the matching 2015/16 winter visit. There was little sign of birds waiting in the surrounding scrub and I have notice that there are more birds visiting later in the day. The only finch seen in numbers is Greenfinch. I have seen one or two Goldfinch at the feeders but nowhere near the numbers of last winter and I have yet to see a Redpoll this year. The Redwing was unexpected as we did not have the “redwing” net up or play any calls. This was the 31st bird of this winter so far here; the norm is a single figure capture. As we keep noting, it appears to be the 1st winter tits that are missing. It is particularly noticeable at this site. It will be interesting to see if we do get a good tit capture here this winter the number of 1st winter birds captured.
Weather: overcast, chilly, some blue sky later, breezy
Present: JL, IW, GB, SC
Nets: 30metres in rides of 12m, 6m, 12m around feeders p from 08:15 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeders): Nigerx2, Black Sunflower, Peanuts, Black Sunflower
