26/02 Snelsmore Feeder

Decided to do an extra visit at the Snelsmore Feeder as I thought we might get more birds here than the other feeders; wrong! Since we started winter feeders in the winter of 1985/86 I cannot remember such low captures. For some reason birds are wary of the nets as they start coming to the feeder once nets are down or maybe they are arrive later in the day. It could be that we only have a few locals around the feeders. Basically we don't know and I am at a loss what to try next.
Weather was quite good, some blue sky early, cool and calm. Later it got breezy for a while and colder.
Present JL, IW, JHW, RJC, GB, SC, DL
24metres of net in 3 rides: 6m nets each side of feeder and a 12m (set back from the feeder as last week), up from 07:45 to 10:30hrs; finished early as there were nearly more ringers than birds.
The capture was only 8(2/6); all recaptures recent.

Sighting 28 Species: A flock of Wigeon flying east probably the highlight; thrushes are now in full song and Great Spotted Woodpeckers drumming. A Raven was croaking from the direction of where we believe them to have a nest. A couple of Siskin high in the trees decided to have a chat late on. Very few Blue Tit seems to be a common cry these days.
