01/03 Maintenance

On Tuesday 28/02  IW, DL, JL with Simon and Chainsaw-Bobby from BBOWT we cleared the rides at Thatcham LNR ready for the CES. It was quite a task as two large trees brought down by the recent storms had blocked all access to the bridge over the stream. Bobby made good work of cutting them into manageable sizes for us to drag off the access. A tidy up strim and prune followed. The site is now ready for spring arrivals,
We visited the Sand Martin Bank at Woodspeen on the 01/03 to refurbish the sand in the pipes. DL, JHW, GB and me met at the Snelsmore car park at 07:45 to try and avoid the cross town traffic. We drove in one car down to the Bagnor Road and on to the estate. Unlike yesterday at Thatcham I manage to avoid getting any punctures (had two yesterday, a repair and a new tyre, nice)
The estate provided the sand and we set to work replenishing 107 pipes and also cleared some debris. It did not take as long as expected so when we finished we sat on the nearby bench and enjoyed the early spring-like weather and a chat with the water keeper who built the bank. We understand another bank further up the valley is on the cards.
All we need now are the Sand Martins ; next week is a possibility!
Men and lady at work (is that a rude sign you are making DL)
