24/09 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR
Session: 24-Sep-2017 07:00 to 11:30hrs
Headlines: A good session, Chiffchaffs on the move in numbers and a few Blackcaps. Goldcrest numbers beginning to build as we move into autumn. Perhaps the last Reed Warbler of the year and no sign of any Sedge Warblers. The three Reed Buntings responded instantly to calls when turned on and as none captured after probably indicate the number of this species present on this portion of the reed bed. A capture of eleven Blue Tits is a welcome increase for this season so far; could do with some better Great Tit numbers. The capture each round mostly made high single figures early, dipped in the middle and a final eleven captured when we took the nets down.
Weather: Overcast early, some breaks in cloud later, calm, cool early warm later
Present: JL, IW, DL, JHW, RGS, RDW
Nets: 246metres continuous reed bed ride of 108m and 90M, three scrub rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:30 to 11:00hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Reed Bunting, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler intermittently
