03/11 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Session: 03-Nov-2017 07:35 to 10:30hrs
Headlines: A session in the fog. Redwings are still coming to audio also Goldcrests. There have been one or two Reed Buntings in the area since September, nice to capture a couple. Best bird, the Dartford Warbler, a nice 1st winter male that has managed to miss the nets over the last few sessions; finally got it wrong today! Several flocks of Redwings came down into the bushes as usual but were not captured, some bounced though as they left a few feathers as calling cards. Those that were captured arrived unseen; possibly singletons seeking company. The Song Thrush was captured with a couple of Redwings might have been a continental but was a small individual so probably not. No "summer" warblers today and a single Redpoll dipped down towards the enclosure but kept going. Nice mix of species, much better than last year’s matching visit.
Weather: Very foggy, cool and calm, fog thinned towards the end of the session.
Present: JL
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18M, 18M , 12M up from 07:45 until 10:00hrs
Lure (audio): Redwing, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Siskin, Redpoll, Yellow-browed Warbler.
Capture (New/Recapture)
