Session:
Headlines: We had visitors from
BBOWT; unfortunately we had more people than birds while they were with us.
Conditions were poor so not many birds captured. Over the last few days little
food has been taken from this feeder so I don’t think the windy weather made
much difference. Like Snelsmore last Sunday, Great Tits dominate the
captured. The two Blue Tits arrived in the last half hour of the session. We
nearly had a repeat of last year’s demo but after BBOWT had gone; an immature male
Sparrowhawk was in the net, but got out as we approached. The total was better
than last year but not by much. Winter finches have still not found this
feeder and time is running out for them to come. I understand from one of the
hedge layering team who lives along Bury’s Bank Road not far from the feeder
that there is a good flock of Goldfinch attending his feeders daily which
probably explains where the usual flock has moved to. We might try another
session before the end of the month if weather conditions allow.
