Session: 26-Jun-2018 06:45 to
10:30hr
Headlines: Still a bit early to
be using audio lures so low expectations for today’s visit. Nine captures is
not too bad and no retraps. The only adult captured, the Song Thrush, was in a
poor state plumage-wise but had not yet started primary moult. All the others
were birds of the year. The tits just seem to be wandering lone individuals
with no family parties or flocks about. A far as we can tell there are no breeding
territories in the vicinity of the enclosure, they were washed out by the
heavy rains in May. I will probably do a
couple more non-lure session and then start luring in July barring the
unlikely event of any late breeding attempts; last year I began on the 9th
July.
Weather: Clear skies, very hot,
mostly calm with a bit of a breeze later.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 66metres in four
rides of 18M, 18M, 12, 18M up from 07:00 to 10:00hrs
Lure (none):

visit.

Recaptures: none
Sightings 35 Species: nothing
unexpected though the lack of hirundines is of note and the Linnets that bred in the gorse have fledge and moved off. The Woodlark were quiet today so they probably have young, they distribute separately away from the nest at about 10 days from hatching, before fledging and are even harder to find than when still at the nest
