01/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 01-Aug-2018 06:50 to 10:30hrs
Headlines: Conditions for ringing much better than yesterday, sylvia and phylos warblers were on the move. Garden Warblers were joined by a few Blackcap and Whitethroat today. Willow Warblers out numbered Chiffchaffs as expected this time of year; some time mid-August there will be more Chiffchaff. A couple of Goldcrest hopefully indicate that crests are starting to disburse. No adults captured today but there were some very bright Willow Warblers, Whitethroats and Garden Warblers that had completed their post juvenile moult. A good steady capture for most of the session with a loll in the middle made for an enjoyable time. A long chat, when my Chinese friends came by, filled the gap.
Weather: Bright, some cloudy periods, calm, light breeze later, warm
Present: JL
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:15 to 10:00hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Willow Warbler, Garden Warbler, Whitethroat, Redstart, Lesser Whitethroat intermittently

Recaptures: none
One of the bright Willow Warblers, unfortunately the photo doesn't show how yellow and green they appeared

Sightings 24 Species: probably missed a few, the Swallow and Swifts went over at the very beginning of the session. Looks like the local Greenfinches have fledge and left as none were detected this morning or yesterday, whereas a week ago they were very busy and noisy.
