Session: 05-Aug02018 05:30 to
10:30hrs
Headlines: Numbers down on last
year indicating that departure from the reed bed is early in 2018 also, the
scrub area capture was way down, particularly on last year. so far, this
season captures from the scrub are sometimes good or as last week none. Whitethroat
once regular here are now scarce visitors to the reed bed. Apart from a few
stragglers (late fledging?) the local acrocephalus warblers appear to have
gone. The matching 2017 visit was relatively busy in comparison to this year, a
similar number of Reed Warblers though. A total of 17 in the standard nets is
surprisingly not the worst capture for this visit, the average for visit 10 is
39; range 2016-14, 1995-85. Just two more visits to go.
Weather: Good ringing
conditions, perhaps a little too bright on the nets, cooler than of late until
the sun came over the trees, calm.
Present: JL, IW, DDL, JHW
Nets: 216metres of net in
three rides of standard reed bed nets, 180m, addition scrub nets 18m, 18m up
from 06:05 to 10:00hrs

Sightings 40 Species: Ian’s list: a good species count, best bird Kingfisher; general perception is that this species is illusive this year so far, otherwise much as expected but low numbers for some species.
