Location: Greenham
Common Western Enclosure
Session: 02-Oct-2018 08:00 to
10:30hrs
Headlines: first day back after
a week in a very hot Pto Pollenca; the heat curtailed the walking a bit, had to retreat and sit in
the shade with a glass of rosado or two; nice.
A bit of a half-hearted session today, still in holiday mode. Some of, maybe, the last
summer migrants of the year, a nice bright female Stonechat had us checking sexing criteria and a Robin representing winter visitors to come; should
be capturing crests but no sign of any on the heath today.
Weather: overcast, occasionally
breezy, becoming more persistent as the session progress, cool
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 48metres in three
rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 08:00hrs to 10:30hrs.
Lure (audio): playlists: warblers and autumn, shuffled intermittently.

Recaptures: none
Sightings 34 Species: Ian’s list (some seen before I got there), notable: a couple
of Snipe flew north along the tree line, the first Skylark for a while and a
single Swallow (perhaps the last here) flew south, and a lone Mistle Thrush flying over against the
light was closely scrutinized, checking that it wasn't a winter thrushes.
