Session:
Headlines: I only managed to get
the first nets up and immediately captured 11, mostly Long-tailed Tits with a
couple of Blue Tits and a Great Tit. Had intended to put up a fourth net but
the tit flock took precedence. I only got the audio on after extracting them.
Following this there was a trickle of captures and it looked like we would
miss out on any migrants late in the session however captured two Blackcaps. A Chiffchaff was calling when I arrived, but stopped soon after. Mid-way
through the session we suddenly got a lot of activity around the enclosure,
mostly birds coming to drink from the large puddle just to the southwest. The gathering
included Goldfinch, Linnet, a couple of Reed Buntings and 10+ Meadow Pipits. The latter flock flew over and around the nets reacting to their call, but we only
captured one. As we went to take the last net down a Goldcrest flew in, hopefully there will be few more in the days to come.

Sightings 38 Species: Ian’s list, quite a lot of activity this morning at times, no gulls today though, at least two separate groups of Long-tailed Tits, the early group we captured most of the flock, a later group did not cross into the enclosure. Woodpigeons and Jays seem very active so far this wee, a lot of flying about, Rooks are scarce at this end of the common.
