05/10 Greenham Common, Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 05-Oct-2018 07:30 to 10:30hrs
Headlines: An extra visit and a catch-up with GB. Still a few Blackcap and Chiffchaff going through but no Goldcrest in numbers yet. To illustrate the difference from last year, the matching visit is from the equivalent Friday rather than the matching date. It shows no summer migrant passage and a good capture of Goldcrest. It maybe that summer migrant passage is extended by a week or two later this year. This if correct may mean that winter migrants will arrive here later.
Weather: overcast, mostly calm, chilly
Present: JL, GB, IW
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 08:00 to 10:00hrs
Lure (audio): playlists – Autumn, BCCCFCGC, Redstart, Meadow Pipit, shuffled intermittently
Capture (New/Recapture)
15(14/01)
Matching Visit: 06-Oct-217

Recaptures: (1) Blue Tit ringed as a pulli 23-May-2018 in nest box D07 at Mount Hill Bagnor; quite trip, for a normally sedentary species, from the north side of the Kennet Valley to the south side.

Sightings 27 Species: Ian’s list. Another Redwings today that spent several minutes sitting just above the nets, listening to Latvian Redwing song but then flew off; otherwise a quiet session with little movement over.
