04/10 Greenham Common, Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common, Western Enclosure
Session: 04-Oct-2018 07:30 to 10:55hrs
Headlines: A bit of a strange morning with no birds at all during the first half of the session. At 09:35 we captured a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff. The next round consisted of another Blackcap, three Chiffchaff and a Coal Tit. On a walk around before taking the nets down we spotted at least four Blackcaps in scrub to the southeast and followed them as they moved towards the enclosure. We captured four and saw another two fly off. Also, in the net was a Blue Tit still in partial juvenile plumage. About the same time as this flurry of activity started two Redwings flew around briefly taking an interest in the lure before flying off; the first of the autumn for us. Last year’s matching visit indicates the lack of Goldcrests so far this year.
