Session:
Headlines: Much quieter today, a
better capture total though. Mostly Goldcrest, with the other notable birds
being, two late summer migrant Blackcaps or are they early wintering birds!
Redpoll and Redwing showed interest in their calls but stayed in the tops of
the bushes just adjacent to the nets, and avoided capture, as they did
yesterday.
Weather: Frost early, cold, calm,
light breeze and sunny periods later.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 48metres in three
rides of 18m, 18m, 12m, up from 07:45 to 10:30hrs
Lure (audio): Fieldfare(part),
Redwing(part), playlists: Autumn, BCCCFCGC intermittently

One of todays Blackcaps: a 1st winter male
Sightings 27 Species: Unlike
yesterday there was little visible movement in any direction. A small flock of
Fieldfare flew north and were the only individuals of this species seen all
morning. Several Redwings flew about, fewer than yesterday though. A couple of
groups of Lesser Redpoll dropped into the enclosure before moving on. As we
took the nets down a Dartford Warbler gave a couple of calls, but we were
unable to find it when we, a little later, search the area it called from.
