Session: 02-Nov-2018 07:40 to
11:30hrs
Notes: A pleasant average
session for the start of the feeder season. Similar to last year’s session but
not as many individuals; could have done with a Brambling though. Some pulli
from this year’s breeding season and a Feb 2015 (4 year’s old) Great Tit. After ringing on Greenham Common, all summer, the luxury of not having to worry about the public and cattle and horses and dogs is most welcome.
Weather: Frost early, bright sunshine,
calm, warm in the sun.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 12metres in two rides
one each side of feeder, up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): peanuts, black
sunflower, niger, fat balls

Sightings 35 Species: Best birds, two Ravens over croaking. Like Greenham Common only a few, mostly individuals, winter finches flying about. Only winter thrushes seen: a flock of Redwings flying towards Woodspeen where there seemed to be quite a few but too far to be sure. The Sparrowhawk was a male that skimmed low over the scrub tops. A brief glimpse of a Cetti's Warbler on the edge of the dense scrub. Not many Pheasant so far this year. Not sure of the status of the Honeybottom shoot since Peter the gamekeeper sadly passed away.
Probably low counts for some species as we missed a few when ringing the birds.
