06/02 Greenham Estovers Feeder

Location: Greenham Common Estovers Feeder
Session: 06-Feb-2019 07:40 to 11:20hrs
Notes: A poor capture today the mild weather instigating a lot of singing and bud feeding in the tree tops. Don’t know what happened to the Goldfinch flock. Last year’s matching visit was a little better, but we had some nets in the scrub that probably accounts for the better species variety. Blue and Great Tit numbers are similar.
Weather: Cloudy with sunny periods, mild, light breeze.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 34metres in three rides of 10m, 12m, 12m around feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): niger, niger, black sunflower, peanut, black sunflower

Recaptures: (3) all recent

Sightings 29 Species: A small flight of Teal and Mallard over north and a flock of Fieldfare flew in from the north, landed in the treetops briefly before flying north again; perhaps a sign of return migration. There was a “murder” of crows (17) in one tree all facing south. The substantial Goldfinch flock that had built in recent weeks seems to have disbursed; just a couple of groups were flying about.
