Location: 17/02
Greenham Estovers Feeder
Session: 17-Feb-2019 07:40 to
11:20hrs
Notes: A disappointing
session, the number of birds coming to the feeder is a shadow of what it was at this time a
few years ago. The mild weather encourages feeding from natural sources and
territorial behaviour. A recaptured Song Thrush from 2017 is good; we don't ring many these days. The total is
the same as last winter’s matching visit but a slightly different species
profile.
Weather: clear, mild, sunny, breezy
Present: JL, JHW, IW, DL
Nets: 58metres in two scrub
rides of 12m, 12m, feeder rides of 10m, 12m, 12m up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): niger, niger, black
sunflower, peanuts, black sunflower

Recaptures: (03) recent except SONTH
ringed 19/11/2017
Sightings 30 Species: Ian’s list, singing Woodlark and a Raven over probably the best birds. Song Thrush are easier to detect at this time of year, they seem to be in full territorial mode singing well into and through the daytime. Although there is a good variety of species the numbers of finches and tits are low for February at this site.
