Session: 21-Aug-2019 07:15 to

Notes: A day of near misses.
We saw Lesser Whitethroats near the nets also a Tree Pipit. Quite A few of the
Swallows through some took interest in their calls but skimmed over the nets.
Chiffchaff and Blackcaps dominated. The only unexpected species captured was
the Linnet. A better total than last year’s equivalent.
Weather:
Present: JL, RJC, IW

rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 07:45 to 10:45hrs
Lure (audio): misc. migrants,
warblers, redstart, swallows(part) intermittently

Sightings 32 Species: The bird of
the day was the Great White Egret. Earlier a Grey Heron had flown northeast so
when a bird of a similar size flew back, seen in silhouette against the sky,
we assumed it to be the heron returning. Fortunately Ian checked it out
through binoculars and realised it was white. We all managed to get good enough views
before it got too far away flying southwest. Swallows were going through South
in singles and small groups for most of the morning. Generally the heath was
quiet compared to yesterday.
