19/02 Greenham Feeder

Location: Greenham Feeder
Session: 19-Feb-2020, 07:45 to 11:15hrs
Notes: The weather forecast today was for a light breeze with rain arriving late morning. The feeder has suffered from the ravages of the storms over the last couple of weeks. One of the posts was snapped by the first storm and two feeders damaged. A third feeder was damaged by squirrels breaking in while it was on the ground. The repaired or replaced feeders were re-erected on the other post with a baffle to stop the squirrels. Unfortunately they manage to chew the top of the post away and squeeze through a gap and further damaged the sunflower feeder. A piece of mesh cut from the nearby scrap bin seems to have temporarily stopped them squeezing through. Today’s visit was better than expected. Unlike at the Bagnor Feeder Great Tit numbers matched Blue Tit. Birds arrive at this feeder later than at the other  feeders, presumably because the nearest substantial woodland is further away and there are known to be other feeders on the way. Towards the end of the session it began spotting with rain and as I took the nets down it got heavier and colder.
Weather: Light breeze, overcast, cool getting colder as the cloud cover increased and the breeze grew stronger, spotted with rain in the last half hour.
