26/04 Greenham Common

C19 Walk update: 35 days (five weeks) since I started doing this regular count. I missed two days through rain. A 73 species total is not bad but disappointed that I have not found any scarce migrants apart from a Black Redstart. The have been a couple of days when there seemed to be passage through the site both associated with cloud cover or north sea murk. As most nights have been clear migrants probably went straight through. I still have a few common summer migrants missing that I would have seen by now, like Reed and Sedge Warblers and Swift, the habitat is wrong for the first two and I have been scanning the sky for the latter but no success yet. Not sure how much longer I will keep it going as I can mostly predict where I will see individuals and look out for them if they are not there. Occasionally some disappear for a few days then return; I expect it is when they have eggs etc. One species there is no shortage of is homo sapiens . They are everywhere even pre-dawn. I try to get home as early as possible to minimise the number of encounters.
