15/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Session: 15-Jul-2020, 07:15 to 11:00hrs

Notes: Started slowly today, first bird not ringed until 08:25hrs. Then on the next round we caught two tit flocks. From the north we captured mostly Long-tailed Tits and from the south mostly Great Tits, 32 individuals total. There were more Willow Warblers today and some Garden Warblers as well as a few Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs. We had a nice male Linnet in moult and finally the bird of the morning a juvenile male Redstart. The matching visit from 2019 had many more migrants.

Weather: overcast, cool, breezy few spots of rain.

Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 07:30 to 10:30hrs

Lure (Audio): Warbler, Misc Migrants, Redstart, Woodlark, Stonechat and Dartford Warbler  intermittently.

Recaptures (0): None

Sightings 30 Species: Apart from Redstart, the only notable species today was Bullfinch heard calling from nearby woodland; they are scarce on the common this year.
