20/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 20-Aug-2020, 07:30 to 11:00hrs
Notes: Today although forecast as windy looked to be the only reasonable weather day for the rest of this week. It was wind affected as the light breeze became stronger as the session progressed, and several birds got out before I got to them. Added a few more warblers to this week’s total and a re-trap of a 2019 Blackcap, interestingly it seems to be on the move a few weeks earlier this year. The matching visit for 2019 shows a much better session and maybe confirms that birds moved later and/or had a better breeding outcome.
Present: JL
Weather: Sunny with a few clouds building, warm, light breeze early gaining strength to a SSW strong breeze by the end of the session.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (Audio):
Warblers, Misc Migrants, Redstart, Hirundines intermittently.

Recaptures:(1)        Blackcap ringed 05/09/2019

Sightings 20 Species: Just one pair of eyes today, did call down some hirundine but not low enough to capture any. There were a few Whitethroats about and one or two bounced out of the net late in the session. Another birder said he saw a Garden Warbler in nearby scrub. A flock of ducks, about 30, possibly Wigeon, flew north over the pickle factory but were too far away to be certain.
